Got My EYE On You

Last weekend, we went out for makan. No, no special reason, we just wanted to. Had that yummy satay minang, bakso and Avocado shake thingy mixed with Milo. Down in Kampung Baru. After that scrumptious meal, we really had nowhere to go….

So let’s go to Titiwangsa Lake! And go on EYE on Malaysia!

Yup, talk about being soo far behind. it’s been there for I dunno, a year?

But hey, tonight is the lucky night eh? The knitwit has decided to grace the neighbourhood with her big butt and cameraphone.

Aaaaaaaaaanyways, we parked (amazingly we found parking, although had to walk a bit) and made our way….

first look

This is the first look at the EYE. I thought of capturing KLCC, KL Tower and the EYE together in a sexy pose. But you know lah cameraphone. And the models were a bit rigid in their stance eh? hik. But beautiful just the same.

Ahhh…they had this..I dunno what do you call it? Water sprays, fountain-like, and images shot on the water spray/fountain. (yes, I get lost when it comes to technical bits). When i actually figured out what it was, they were showing dolphins. But when i snapped the pictures, the dolphins went into the water and stayed there *sigh*

So I got the eagle…

eagle

And the lady…(which I only figured out when I saw the picture..*sigh*)

 girl

and theeennnnnnnnnnnn we were there!

the EYE on Malaysia!

the EYE

This is the ticket booth…yes, the thingies we would sit in looked like this too.

 ticket booth

So wait, wait, wait, queue, queue, and voila! we we IN the EYE!

The thingy ( I don’t know what else to call it ha-ha!) can fit maybe a family squeezed in together? But there were only four of us in it. The other two girls, I have no idea who, lah. But the girl next to me was really, really scared so I tried not to move too much…

Here’s a view from the thingy.

KLCC from the EYE

Here’s another view as we were about to get off.

view from the EYE

Not bad eh?

It was moving kinda slow in the beginning, when we were all excited taking pictures and everything. But then it went at a slow but moving speed. Several rounds. After Round 3 or so, it got a bit, well, the same. Ah..KLCC. Ah..Istana Budaya. Ahh apartments…Ah..people below…Ah..KLCC again.

But, hey. It was a good ride in all.

Letter To Mummy

Dear Mummy and Mummy,

We hope you are having a great holiday. We are ok here, but missing you badly. Thank you for leaving Aunty K, Aunty J and Aunty S to take care of us. Not much use really, them. Aunty K and Aunty J is always at the computer. At least Aunty S slept with us and gave us food and clean our toilet everyday. We know they will give you good reports, so here we are giving you the TRUE story, mummy and mummy.

We all went into protest mode the day after you left, (after eating breakfast of course, since we would need the energy to protest). We were either under the bed, behind the drapes, and other hiding places we’d better not mention (just in case the Aunties opened this letter and decide they want to find us). Aunty K sort of looked for us, but we already arranged with each other to be as quiet as possible and not ask anyone to come and gosok-gosok us. Aren’t we clever, mummy? We saw Aunty K terbongkok-bongkok looking for us ha-ha! Apa lah Aunty ni!

But the next day Abang decided he needed some TLC.  Since everyone knows he IS the Boss, we couldn’t stop him. But he did tell us he has a plan. He walked into the office around 11 am and started to goda-goda Aunty K. Aunty K is sooo easily won over lah  mummy! She started to baby talk with Abang and Abang got her to gosok-gosok him. he is such a seducer, mummy! And then he bit Aunty K, ha-ha! Padan muka, she was the one who made Mummy and Mummy go away! Only Abang can get any aunty to carress him while he makes a sad, accusing face and bites the wrongdoer! Aunty K is a torchered soul.

 Abang

Adik, meanwhile, decided that enough is enough. Someone has to take care of Mummy’s room. So he held the fort the whole day, guarding religiously Mummy’s clothes. Quite a warrior, Adik. But Adik also gave Aunty K that accusing look when Aunty K came in to say hi. Aunty K must be a wreck by now (She IS! and she’s reported to Mummies ok? – Aunty K)

 Adik

I, of course, am the Diva (but don’t ever tell Aunty K that she’s right ok Mummy?). I only came out in the evening, after Aunty K called and called (she’s so not  in my class, that Aunty K). Then I kesian her so I went and did some of my Diva poses for her. She has a lot to learn, that Aunty.

Kaka

Before Aunty K left, Abang decided to send her off with one of his looks ( you know the one Mummy, that “I know it’s all your fault, I am so abused” look?) We just know Aunty K is riddled with guilt and shame ha-ha!

 abang

So that’s our news, Mummy and Mummy. Aunty K told us that you have been sending Aunty K MMSes of the great food you’ve been having there! Bagus! Dera dia lagi!

Mummyyyyyyy come back sooon! (KAKA! maintain! maintain! – Abang).

Love from all of us!

Shiok Sendry Scrunchie

Yes, I am still mourning the loss of my knitting pattern book.

That was the only crisis that was not salvagable, because it came free with one of the lower priced back issue knitting magazine that I had bought. *sigh*.

But, knitting must go on.

The project itself is somewhat recoverable, I will just pick out some knitting patterns and hopefully be able to get them the same size as the ones I already have.

But I didn’t feel like thinking. Heck, I don’t feel like thinking most days, anyways, hik.

So I put off the project and thought of another. I wanted something easy, and thoughtless (well, almost). I decided to knit a scrunchie. You know, the one you tie your hair with. I keep losing mine, so why not make some rather than buy some eh?

Anyways, first i tried finding out the general measurements of a scrunchie, and found one here. I thought it was a bit big, that 16cm X 56cm, but hey, let’s not think too much about it.

So I used my own recipe for disaster… I mean scrunchie:

3.75mm straight knitting needles

several bits of yarn that I had with me

So off I go.

Most of the patterns I googled did their scrunchie lengthwise. Me, ever impatient, would start with the width and work up to the desired length. So I can stop anytime I want you see?

And the rule about changing yarns or adding new yarn would be to tie the new yarn to the old one, as close as possible to the stitch. The other rule is to start the new yarn at the beginning of a row, makes it neater.

Well. Makcik at this point of time couldn’t care less la about making the wrong side neater la, doing it by the book all la you know? So Makcik cincai cincai knotted all the yarns together to make one looong yarn, only making sure that the yarns of the same colour are knotted together (knot the yarns?? *gasps of horror all over the knitting world*)

 wrong side scrunchie

I started casting on 30 stitches. Then just so I won’t get bored, I made stripes. Anyways the bits of yarn I had were several colours to begin with. Simple stockinette stitch (i.e. knit one row, purl one row).

scrunchie

I knitted, watched tv, ate, drank, slept, until the whole thing was this length.

 length of scrunchie before sewing

At about 46cm, I just about had enough u know? ahahaha.

elastic attached  elastic attached

So after that just sew the ends lengthwise, attach the getah, (the elastic was about 22 cm long, which later I felt was too long so i cut it even shorter, maybe 16cm?)

Then turn over, and secure the ends. This one just do lah, turn however you want it, secure however you feel like. I just attached a huge safety pin on the elastic (so I don’t lose it inside the scrunchie), turned the piece right side, then sewed the elastic together with the other end of the scrunchie to make a round.

VOILAAAAAA! Shiok Sendry Scrunchie!

fnished scrunchie

But one can never not think.

The scrunchie was a bit humongous. Too wide, not long enough, and therefore not scrunched up enough. When I tie my hair with it (bad enough I have only several strands of hair, pathetic really), all wound up, it’s almost as big as my head.

See?

 scrunchie on head

The patterns always said that this is fast-to-make. So why did mine take like..two days??

Because I made a scrunchie for MoonFace’s (remember him from Faraway tree? No? What year were you born again?) wife. *sigh*

Nicks elegantly said that I look like I’m wearing a sock on my head.

Repent now, oh ye of little faith.

Never mind, I’ll try again.

Wherefore Art Thou?

I have lost my knitting.

As per always, wherever I go, I would take a small bag of knitting with me. As it happens, I’m knitting a series of small squares (because it IS Hip to Be Square, no?), so I just have one of those toiletries bag all snug in my tote.

As it happens, I was traipsing all over KL on Friday, took it out, show it off (‘tu bukan mengait, tu memintal’ piped my ever bright friend), put it back in.

As it happens I didn’t even think about the bag and its contents until Sunday, when holidays are nearly over and I need some distraction and started to look for it.

and as we all now know, As it happens, it wasn’t in my bag. It wasn’t in that big basket of clean clothes that I haven’t had the chance to tuck into the closet (Well in the end I did, to look for my knitting and it wasn’t in there).

M upturned her house (where I had spent hours eating, gossiping and eating) and it wasn’t there,  P upturned her car (where we sat gossiping while going to M’s house, a shopping mall and several lepak-ing places) and nada, nothing too.

i doubt that it was at Secret Recipe (where we went for lunch), nor is it at Old Town White Coffee (supposedly on the ‘waterfront’ but the water happened to be at the back of the shop – how lah???).

The last resort would be to look under my bed.

Ok. That will take awhile. Hik.

But juuust in case.

Anyone who has seen a toiletries bag (from MAS i believe), dark brown, inside it are:

one circular needles 4.2mm

one ball of light yellow yarn (with some knitting on the needle)

one thread cutter (looks like garden shears except it’s small and used like a pair of scissors)

two crochet hooks

two needle protectors

several large safety pins

several paper clips

about 6 inches of bright pink yarn

one VERY IMPORTANT PATTERN BOOK

can I have it back please?

Ok ok. You can have the stuff if you want, but could I at least have the pattern book back? The one that is tattered and filled with notes like “Aiyah so ugly this pattern!” or “@#%$ so difficult!”.

Because I’m like..in the middle of this blanket thingy I’m knitting?..and I’ve only got like..40 more squares to do….

The Concert – Other Things

 tickets

Ah-ha.

Now I can sort of write about other things at the concert. Fan or no fan? about the concert oso must have two entries eh?

aaanywaysssssss, I went to the concert on FT day, which was a holiday for KL. So I had plenty of time to prepare myself for the event. Ok, so I woke up just in time for lunch and then had to run for the bus so i won’t be too late eh?

A friend kindly said that she would send me to the LRT as long as I go have drinks with her. Yeay! Cayang u lah K!. After several forms of nescafe (nescafe tarik, nescafe ais, nescafe o ais kosong) and one roti pisang later, off I go on my merry (albeit a little late) Sheila way.

Here’s the initial view of Sheila.. I mean the venue.

Off we go with my friends to the KL Convention Centre.  I was not (thankfully) in work capacity, so I was able to stomp around, looking suspiciously like acik joyah from Kampong Tok Long Seman, Mukim 14, Ulu Pak Tam first-time-in-the-presence-of-artists. Well, at least until I met up with my boss, eheheh, then I had to pretend I was blase about the whole shebang (is that the right use of blase??).

I saw Fazli Zainal.

Fazli

I saw Dayang Nurfaizah.

dayang

I saw others too, but didn’t take any pictures heh.

Finally it was time for us to go in. The hall was filling up. I took some pictures. D took some pictures. Z sat and smiled and posed (dunno for what she pose pose). The three of us made some noise.

Plenary Hall

Sigh. I need a camera camera lah…..

The Plenary Hall was not very big, but nice. I like the lights, but D took better pictures of them (TQ photographer and owner of camera).

Then the magic began…

The Divine Miss M and Me (a.k.a. Jottings of a Mad Sheila Majid Fan)

I wrote this right after i got home from the concert. Note the tinge of hysteria.

It’s 3.45 am and i am still in a teruja mood. I’d probably post this tomorrow but i need to write it all down now. (in the end i posted it five hundred years later, kan? I told you this “save” feature is hazardous to blogging)

I just got home from a  divine experience.

I went to see SHEILA MAJID.

 stage

Don’t ask me how the stage looked like, (ok so I got the picture so no need to ask right? heh), don’t bother asking what she wore. Well ok, she had on a white/cream shimmery dress and then later changed into a black shimmery dress. I don’t really remember. She could have had on her baju kupu-kupu/rama-rama/kelawar, bedak sejuk on her face and holding a senduk  in her hand for all I care. All I remember was SHEILA MAJID. Singing SHEILA MAJID’s songs.

The minute – nay, the second that “Oh oh Sh-Sh-Sheila….Wa-Wa-Warnaaaaaa…” could be heard, I was lost. There was only Sheila and me. Singing. Her voice basically wrapped around me, giving out a million memories, I don’t even know how to describe it.

Nada, Memori, Bahagia, Tua Sebelum Waktu, Kasih, Hasrat Cinta, Pengemis Muda….the list goes on. Oh yeah, and the Number ONE karaoke song,  Antara Anyir dan Jakarta which I know ALL Malaysians who karaoke have had this song on their list at least once (samada secara solo, duet atau berkumpulan). A few times during our karaoke sessions, we had to repeat this song several times because there is always someone who missed this song because they had to go to the loo lah, answer phone calls lah or whatever. Everybody must sing this song la, you know.

it was Amazing.

A.

Ma.

Zing.

Mind you, i was only temporarily out of my Sheila Majid trance when she sang one or two songs that were not familiar to me (Ya La, some songs after the Lagenda album I a bit blur blur la you know?). So that’s when I sort of saw the baju, the stage and the live feed on the screen.  The rest of the time I was transported into another world.

This happens everytime I watch her perform. Everytime. How do i even describe it??? The songs, her voice, sultry, silky, just….envelopes me. I get shivers, I feel like crying, simply because it is SHEILA MAJID.

Her presence was magnetic. She didn’t have to do the booty shake a’la Beyonce, she didn’t have to have the five million dancers with the Citrawarna giant flowers waving in all directions, she only had to smile and sing.

(at this point I got lost in the nostalgia and forgot what else I wanted to say, so I went to sleep)
