Tummy Tucks: Gulam Mee Sdn Bhd

See my title? so not creative. Shows what state my mind is in nowadays. Sooo not witty (witty ke sebelum ni?).

aaaaaaaaaaanywayyysss.

Been awhile since i go makan-makan eh. Well I go, but i always forget to take pictures. If I take pictures, I’ll forget to blog about it. By the time I remember, dah tak feeling lagi kan?

Aaaanywaaaays.

Yesterday we went to Gulam Mee Sdn Bhd. This is my second time there, and yes, the last time i went i DID take pictures. But never wrote it out. So this one is like from two visits lah you know?

The address is

B-13A-G, Blok B Bestari D’kota,
Jln Teknologi 3/9,
47810 Petaling Jaya,
Selangor
Tel: 03-6141 8791

That’s all i know ya?

Thing about blogging during working hours is that, you ARE working, and when you get back to the blog, you’ve forgotten what you wanted to write about already.

Makanya, marilah tengok – tengok gambar saje.

Apparently they started out selling only the Mee, but now have branched out to warong style food area. No, I didn’t have the Mee.

yaaaa.. loads of things to eat there.

First time we went, we had all these:

This is Sup Ekor. Very, very, sedap. And big portion. My tummy approves.

This one is daging goreng kunyit. The daging is very the tender.. Almost melt in mouth. *wipes drool*.

Ah-ha. We actually ordered everything already, but Nicks got tempted by the bakar-bakar stall next to where we were sitting, and ordered this. Large succulent sotong, in some sort of sambal. Drool.

The sec0nd time round, we had these:

Ah-ha. Daging Masak Kunyit, Sayur Campur & Telur Bistik. So menggiurkan.

This time, instead of the sotong,  we had siakap bakar. Soft, Juicy, and definitely droolicious.

For dessert I had Cendol. Rupa ok ok, tapi rasa mengancam. Just nice, not too sweet.

Ok la,  doesn’t beat Cendol Makcik Sayang TTDI la kan, but can do also lah.

I leave you with this visual. Puyoh Stylo ok? One imagines the puyoh  all suited up a’la Anuar Zain doing a show…..

Homst is where the tummy is

There are a few things that i’ve just realized (ok, I’ve realized this for quite awhile now, i just haven’t bothered to put it in writing):

1. I always, always get inspired to blog when taking photos of food but

2. when i actually got home, the actual writing of the post needs a whole host of inspiration to get me going.

3. It used to be, my pre-writing preparation would be to have several ciggies, make coffee, browse through the TV channels and such. Now it’s play with my virtual pets, harvest my virtual crops or attack another sorority house.

4. AND, as my own server loads up slower than the local post (if i sent a letter to my virtual plantation via snail mail i think it would arrive first), i end up finishing my various business way past bedtime (yes i DO have a bed time, although it may well be the rise n shine time for you normal folks eh?).

But hey, here i am, trying to finish a post before my ciggies run out and there goes another inspiration factor.

Yes there is yet another thing i’ve realized. There are some really good places to eat in TTDI. I mean hey, Nicks was telling me the other day about this article in The Star about street burgers? Please, burger dekat Shell station TTDI juga sangat mengancam ye? Otai, yo.

But I digress.

But I always do.

Anyways. *gulps Iced coffee, puff puff ciggy*

I haven’t been to Homst , the Chinese Muslim Restaurant, in quite awhile I must say. Perhaps its relatively new status of a non-smoking reastaurant threw me off a bit (since i usually go for dinner after work  and i would like to pollute a bit you know?). But I was there before they opened up their new chains, when it had a more kopitiam atmosphere, and the chef would come out and ask us for comments on the food (at that time, masin, tapi sedap). Well, look at it now. So elegant already tau.

Menu pun dah glamer. No more print print from PC & laminate ones.

The other day, going to Homst was like going home indeed. The prodigal stomach returned as it were, as the abangs and kakaks went ‘Lama tak nampak, mana pergi?’. Terharu perutkus.

And that night I actually remembered to take pictures!

ok, the merepek stops here. On to serious business. What We Ate At Homst, TTDI.

I had Chinese Fried Rice. Simple, but SO sedap.

So berangan if you thought i only had the fried rice k? My greed knows no boundaries. My partner in tummy-tucks had the White Rice & Sweet Sour Fish set, which of course I had to dip my grubby fingers into also lah. And we had Broccoli with Oyster Sauce. Again, not so complicated food, but taste? Aiseh, cannot describe the kesedapans.

This is the first time I had this, the Oyster Omelette. Ok ok la, didn’t quite get to taste the oyster. But then again I did have Fried Rice and all those other Lauks eh?

Ah-ha. *Takes a loooong pause to wipe drool, etc etc, the usual activity i had to do when i do food posts*

I have been having this ever since the shop opened. Claypot Tofu. Firm favourite, this one. But.. weelllll…. it has changed over the years lah. The gravy is a bit thinner, the taste a bit different, and dulu-dulu they used to put in these yummy soft egg tofus in. Now the tofu is still yummy, albeit a bit keras-er lah.

And of course, we usually have our meals with either Chinese Tea Hot/Cold, or

Limau Asam Boi.

Do I even have to say it?

Hungry.

NOW.

Tummy Tuck – Steam It Up!

my yarn has decided to get itself all tangled up. *glares at yarn*

Must be the heat.

Not only that, this yarn decided to invite my other yarn for a tangling game. *sigh*.

The air-cond doesn’t seem to be cool enough. *glares at air-cond remote*

Yeah, must be the heat.

I’m feeling irritable.

Definitely the heat.

But I digress.

But i always do anyways. So hey, what the hey eh? *irritable tone*

I’ll confuse myself if I want to. *blissfully irritated*

Aaaaaaaaaanyways, been awhile eh?

I actually have been going places to eat, but i what i haven’t done is take pictures. Because i only usually remembered after I’ve eaten, and the plates were polished to a gleaming shimmer. So the point of the pictures were.. well.. kinda lost eh? What is there to write about a clean plate?

But I digress again.

A few weeks ago, my partner in food adventures and I went to makan. True, we have been lazy. We’ve simply eaten what was in front of us (usually what Bibik made lah kan). So that one time, we actually ventured out of our cosy haven and decided to get some fresh air and fresh tastes.

Far we travelled, long we searched (all of 15 minutes).

And here we are.

Silver Pot Chinese Muslim Steamboat Restaurant, TTDI.(Jauh la sangat kan?)

It was quiet when we arrived. Al-maklum lah baru bukak for evening. The kakak lari-lari from the back of the shop to greet us. AND it’s a smoking restaurant. I liiiiikeeeeeeeeee.

We had the Lover’s Set. I suppose it’s called that because the stuff comes in twos or fours.

Haaa now can see better.

I think the hunger got to us, though. We became so tamak and ordered extras.

Scallops and fish fillets (this is only a third of it ya?)

And i present.. my most tamak moment… The vegie fried rice.

Reminiscent of my Fatty Crab days, really.

But seriously, with such a lot of food, the rice was one that I couldn’t finish. (Knitwit not finishing rice is a feat on its own ok?).

Ah-ha. And here’s my boat, bubbling away.

I guess the trend nowadays is to have individual boats eh? which i like. Because i always liked the plain soup, whereas my friends prefer the tomyam. So this is like, perfect.

Gone are the days where you put those last two prawns into the big boiling pot, (sup tomyam pulak tu), waited patiently for them to be ready, blinked one nth of a second, only to find them in another’s plate, while the Tuan Punya plate goes ‘eh, this one your one ah?’ while happily munching away on my one.

Not that I eat prawns mind you.

Yes, the last word. Sedap.

Tummy Tucks – Hail To The King

there is this kedai in TTDI.

nondescript, small, and only people who knows, knows.

But sells one of the best sup i know.

haaaaaaaaaaa. Raja Sup. I guess it’s overshadowed by the mamak at the end of the row. I was here a few years ago, but sort of forgot about it after that. So one day, for the sake of variety, we went here.

One of the reasons i like Raja Sup is because they have this array of goodies to put in your soup.

Mari mari tengok tengok.

Haaaa…. all also got. Tongue, tripe, tail, mushroom, broccoli, cauliflower…

lung… and i dunno what this giant2 parts are.. but i remember this is like the one in Singapore eh?

soo first you pick pick what you want in your soup. I always like tongue, tripe and lung and loads of mushroom.

Then order limau ais, telur dadar and nasik putih.

Thennnnn they come out with your soup.

Haaaaa…. you see you see you see…..

And the soup is really good. With white rice and omelette….

way to go Raja Sup! (i’m trying to avoid saying ‘I hate doing food entries’ ok?)

Tummy Tucks – Naan of my heart

Wooohoooo! This is one of my favourite tummy tucks!

ahhh i had this for dinner just now. This is Mumtaz Naan, and as far as i know, can only be found at Mosin, TTDI.

It’s creamy, salty, naan-y…

A firm fave!

And Mumtaz Naan always reminds me of someone delicious! Woowoooo!

The Lion, The Knitwit & No Wardrobe (only Esplanade) Finale

Why la I chose such a long title when i wanted to make it into several hundred episodes kan? Thank goodness this would be the last in the trilogy.

Well, we all know what happened on that Saturday,  8th November 2008. The concert. Which was held here:

Esplanade. Where it all happened.

We were there early. Very early. (By MY definition lah, you know?)

Things are very strict there, and everyone needed passes to get in and out. So in the end I spent a lot of time inside, because i really can’t be bothered to check in and out everytime.

This would be my favourite place (Thank You Esplanade for providing this)

Ah-ha.. the Boardroom.Where big decisions are made. Where i get all my big ideas. hik.

Anyways, suddenly suddenly i don’t have a lot to tell pulak. Typical eh? So i’ll just do what i normally do, fill up the silence with pictures.

Anyhoo a picture paints a thousand words, does it not? or so the song goes…

Yes. You can’t just simply saunter into the concert hall with your selipar jepun and expect to be taken seriously eh? We now know that the IN footwear at The Esplanade is…. Phua Chu Kang boots.. Colour optional (they’re not THAT strict after all)

I wonder who’s behind this door? ehehehe.

But of course, would any of my entries be complete without my favourite subject?

Noooooooooooooo.

The organisers really gave us good food (Thank you Kevin). This is from The Donut Factory, and see the ones with white topping and yummy black stuff on top of it? The oreo donut will forever be my Dream Donut. I still drool when i think of it. And this hearthrob back in Singapore promised me a bunch of these… tanda kaseh sayang kita kan FF? (Akak sendiri geli dengan statement ini). But hey, I will not forget! (BB,  DD, ZZ and everyone else with double alphabets, please remind the aforementioned hearthrob).

And for dinner, we had this tummylicious treat:

It’s kind of a fusion Chicken Rice with chicken chop, fish fingers (or was it Foo Chuk>) and veggies and tofu. Heaven I tell you.

But I had a lot of donuts, and only had ONE pack of this (Dah saket kah Knitwit? Only ONE pack???).

*Sigh*

Have I said that I hate doing food blogs? Because they make me sooooooooo hungry!

Oh yes, i now remember why we were at Esplanade…

This was rehearsal. No need to say anything more right? (Yang tak melibatkan makanan pendek saja penerangannya kan?)

I think that there is nothing that hasn’t been said about the concert. The Man was mesmerising, the sound amazing, the lighting fantastic, the whole atmospehere and bonding between him, the fans, the music…. was.. well you HAD to be there to know what i mean. Indescribable ( NO, I am soo not being biased).

And after that exhilarating experience, we had to celebrate it all eh? What did I do?

Of course.

Ah-ha… this is sup tulang and sirap bandung. Finally something red eh? The sup is red, and not soupy at all. The sirap is kinda pinkish and very, very sedap (to quote my boss, is there anything yang tak sedap, K?) Honestly though, I was too tired to do the ‘let’s get to the best  middle part’ thingy because you really had to suck. And suck hard.

Let’s keep it clean, people.

Next time we go again ok gang?

So here ends my Singapore trip. Short, busy, yet meaningful.

Oh yes.

A lot of people were a bit disappointed that there wasn’t a meet the fan session.

Well, apparently,  ONE fan got to meet him.

anuar-message-small1

It’s ok. I do understand the jealousy. And I forgive you for hating me.

Retro Entry: The Lion, The Knitwit and No Wardrobe (only Esplanade) Part Dua

Yeahh.

The Singapore experience is a long, long picturesque story, so it warrants a few entries. Basically because i want my pictures BIG, you understand. And i love telenovela-ing everything eh? So we need a few episodes, no?

Why do i even NEED to explain? Everybody knows The Knitwit is a DramaQueen.

So there I was in Singapore. Kunun – kunun wanted to take pictures riiiight from the beginning lah kan? The bus trip, the departure, the arrival, etcetera.

But hey, it was real early when we started off okeys? Not my best when you have to be upright so early. I prefer the supine position, thank you. So there it is, I can only share when i am actually in Singapore, after a shower and chit chat and what have yous. Which means, malam lah.

We stayed at The Amara Hotel, our gracious sponsor. It’s a beautiful hotel.

And i squeezed in a bit of sightseeing hat night, before actual work starts.

On the way to makan – makan, I saw this structure somewhere…

I like. So unity.

So we actually went to makan at Lau Pa Sat. I actually found out that was the name of the place we went to when searching for the link ok? Knitwit is a bimbo when she’s hungry. This (according to the websites) used to be an old market. But I love the architecture of the place.

so cantik. I am especially besotted with the arches:

sooooooooo cantik. Imagine me terdongak – dongak taking pictures k? Eeeeeverybody knows I am not Singaporean.

I also like this concept? Where they have a stage on a raised platform? really cool I thought.

But let’s get to my favourite topic, FOOD.

At Lau Pa Sat, we had a blast. Tummy-wise that is.

yaaaaa…. Nasi Goreng Kampung, Satay, Rojak Buah, Chicken Wings and Mango Ice Kacang.

So, not everything is red in Singapore as rumoured ya? And they all taste very nice. No, it isn’t because I was hungry.

ah-ha. And this is definitely a firm fave. Char Kuey stuffed with sotong. Very, very sedap k? And i’ve never seen in KL (got meh?)

i also like this. The Ais. Singapore style, ehehehe.

And in that short span of time, I also got to do a bit of sight- seeing…

ehem. It’s actually called One Fullerton, tapi tak muat kamera pule. Hik.

Amateur.

Anyways, I got some Singapore monuments as it were eh?

Pictures, i mean. Hik.

Jangan sampai orang tak caya Aunty K pegi Singapore pulak kan?

Ah-haaaa…. The Singapore Flyer. At least i get to take picture kan?

And of course, no trip to Singapore would be complete without:

Ah-haaaaaaaaaaaaaa. The Merlion. Must take picture right?

Thanks to my friends who had kindly taken me to these sights, makan-makan and shopping-shopping…..

Eid Mubarak!

I think i’ve opened this ‘write a post’ thingy like…so many times in the past few days? but never got around to writing anything. Been down with fever, which is not good since it spoils my appetite.

And that’s a big thing to the Knitwit.

anyhoooo….. it was a great Raya, despite me not being well.

Mum made Mee Bandung (which I had a few spoonfuls then couldn’t keep it in) , a change from the usual Penang Laksa, as well as the usual fare. jom, jom tengok.. all the food I couldn’t eat on the first day of Raya…

Sigh…. Oh Well. Raya sebulan….

Everyone was here though, as per usual.

My nephew even got a bit of Chess with Pak Ngah…

Note very strict girl supervisor making sure that everything is as it should be, and note the other Prince totally immersed in own world of PS2….

it was only today, on third Raya, that I got some of my appetite back. Fortunate no? Since my mum made vegetable rice with sambal sotong and chicken curry, and soto.

And I got to eat it all!

It’s good to be back….

Ramadhan Tummy Tucks – Nasi Beriyani

Heh. So much for being back lah u know? Already the third week of Ramadhan and nary a post about my Ramadhan.

Padahal ambik gambar macam tak cukup tangan, kalau boleh nak pakai kaki sekali snap photo tu.

On top of that, I suddenly discover that I don’t know WordPress any more…where are my tags? my categories? I’ll probably spend more time re-discovering than writing eh? (post entry note: i know now. I wrote in pAGES instead of POST *sigh*)

BUT.

Before i lose sight of what i actually wanted to write, let us proceed.

This year, most of my iftar was spent either at home, or at a friend’s place, instead of eating out. I mean, the buffet prices are astronomical this year. The staff probably had to go out fishing in the the deep sea themselves, fought with pirates, clean and fillet the fish at the same time. or something equally hazardous, u know? (Astaghfirullah bulan Ramadhan.. sheath thy talons, shrew)

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway…

My first buka puasa-not-at-home was on the Friday, first week of Ramadhan.

I had Nasi Beriyani Tanam. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Sedap or not, I ask you?

Home-made ok. With lauk all. Basically, it’s Beriyani with chicken embedded in the rice. Some people call it Beriyani Gam i guess? But never mind, names are secondary. Rasa yang penting tu…rasa.

05092008120

Scrumptious no? I thought (and still think) so too. We got the rendang daging  and dodol mat sirat at a counter in The Mall, KL. Very susah  to find, that  dodol.

05092008119

This is the (according to the chef) kuah beriyani (ayam). Honestly, i’ve never had this, usually my beriyani was with dhal, or honey chicken, or korma or some such. but this? is SEDAP  ok?

05092008126

Ha, got a photo before demolition began, hik.

05092008123

Actually the rice was good enough to eat on its own, which i did shamelessly, senduk after senduk (yes, I did have something to eat the day before, and no, i didn’t walk all the way from Ethiopia undernourished for 6 years before i got some wholesome meal – Astaghfirullaaaah bulan Ramadhan!

Hadoi. One posting, already my tummy growls looking at the food. So many more to go….

Section 14 Revisited

It’s been awhile since I was in SS14. Oh back in the days, when my housing area only had two bus services, one to KL and one to PJ, ss14 was the place to be. When going to Jaya was the thing to do eh?

Sooooo, there I was, back in SS14, on a Sunday afternoon. We were going to check out the new (well, new to me) Digital Mall, at the building where Metrojaya used to be?

Yeah. Things have changed in ss14.

Anywaysssss…. we went for lunch at this quiet little place, somewhere near the mosque (we all know it is useless to ask for directions from the Knitwit ya? Useless).

My first thought was, seems all the eateries want to be called kopitiam now. It used to be Cafe this and cafe that, now it’s Selayang Timur Laut Station Kopitiam, or Lengging Original Kopitiam or some such.

But anyhooo, the kopitiam is a quiet place, nondescript really. Suits me fine, as long as there’s a smoking section, I’m happy.

It was then a welcome surprise that the food was quite good, befitting the presentation!

I had the beehoon/kueyteow kungfu, with erm..some sort of coffee lah, I can’t really remember (tu lah! Buat lagi lambat-lambat kan?).

And they were good. I actually asked for just the beehoon, u know? Coz I like the crunchy crunchy bits. But apparently it comes in a combination of noodles, but i still got the crunchy crunchy bits with the kuey teow, so that’s all right. The coffee was good too, although I seriously cannot remember what i ordered now. Some cold coffee concoction lah.

Nicks went with the boring looking fried kuey teow, but hey, bila dah rasa, sedap la pulak! The fishball soup was also sedap, so I had more than a few cedoks of Nicks’s soup heh (You so small la woman, sure cannot finish one). Now, the one thing Knitwit tak puas hati is, how come her Lime Jelly drink was bigger than my Iced Coffee? why?

Very salah ok? But then again, I ended up finishing the drink anyways, so tak kesah lah.

See how useful I am during meals? I keep leftovers at a minimum.

Oh Digital Mall? Very like Low Yatt Plaza, really, just closer to home… ehehehe.
